A Hint Of Magic - Claire Chilton - 4*

A Hint Of Magic is a novella from Claire Chilton's Demon Diaries series. It follows the pursuits, chaos and hilarity that makes up Dora Carridine's life. She's a Preacher's daughter and is the complete opposite of the holier than thou daughter of a priest. She loves the dark side and has a penchant for demons, has a gothic flair and an at times laugh out loud humour. Dora wants nothing more than to leave her sheltered church life, to dive into a realm of magic and mayhem. She finds it after following a strange mist, into a corner shop of oddities. Thus leads her on a path of three trials. There are twists and turns and a nice bit of sudden romance, but that is far from the heart of the point. You feel for Dora and you want her to just have her time, just have her little bit of difference, when you have a preachy father and a high maintenance mother, all you want is to just be yourself. But they are not letting her do that. I can understand Dora's anger. Which is portrayed quite well.

A Hint Of Magic is short and sweet, it was a great laugh at times and left me chuckling away to myself with some of the humour. Dora is a likable character, if not at times a slight bit immature. I did like A Hint Of Magic, I liked it's magical element that had a twist of it's own, and it did leave me wanting to follow Dora's exploits into the Demon Diaries.

It is free to download on Amazon as a Kindle Book. You can download it Here, download it and give it a try, and further support Claire Chilton's work -- she has a nice writing style, it flows nicely and is full of humour and well-written dialogue. One cannot have the darkness with out a little bit of light-hearted fun.

A Hint Of Magic is like a good cup of tea, it really hits the spot if you want a quick and pleasant read, nothing too engrossing and nothing you feel overly invested in time wise -- it does however make you want to know more and find out what happen to Dora.
